Day One: Highlights

The first day of Automotive Interiors Expo Europe 2019 has got off to a great start, with visitors enjoying the latest product launches and innovations from over 150 exhibitors. Attendees are able to touch, feel and sample colors, textures and quality finishes, while also discovering new HMI materials, lighting technologies, advanced materials and manufacturing processes. The show, which which is free to attend and opens at 09.00 tomorrow and closes at 15.00 on Thursday May 23, is playing host to more exciting news announcements than ever before.

Panoramic roof concepts

Webasto Roof & Components SE (Booth A4350) is displaying two of its latest innovations for panoramic sunroofs – both clearly underline a trend for greater customization and passenger interaction.

The first, its Sky Illuminator Panorama Roof, featuring infrared absorption and integrated ambient lighting, is already installed on the BMW 7 series. Individual designs, including logos, can now be printed on the panel. The graphics become visible when light shines through, without compromising transparency.

Interactive backlit interior components

Leonhard Kurz (Booth A4020) is displaying a number of exciting, eye-catching, interactive backlit interior component concepts, including a backlit door trim featuring an innovative ‘day-night’ design. Inspired by nature and called Cloudy Feathers, the trim boasts touch functionality realized by capacitive POLY TC touch sensors, manufactured by Kurz subsidiary PolyIC.

Consistent lighting

Oshino Lamps GmbH (Booth A4240) is exhibiting a range of ambient lighting and mood lighting for automotive interiors. The company uses intelligent RGB modules featuring a compact design for a variety of both direct and indirect lighting applications, such as illuminated surfaces, lines and spots.

The LED system allows 100% end-of-line calibration, including compensation for temperature and aging effects, together with compensation for production-related color and brightness differences. This ensures constant chromaticity coordinates and constant brightness for all RGB luminaires integrated in the system. The systems can communicate via LIN, CAN or ISELED.

Reducing display glare

With modern car interiors full of screens the last thing you want is for them to reflect light and distract the driver. MacDermid Enthone Industrial Solutions (Booth A4580) is in Stuttgart to debut a version if its XtraForm Antiglare film, which is particularly suited for displays. The films are specifically designed for deep-draw 3D film insert molding (FIM) applications and automatic processing, and are available in a range of different gloss levels and clarity.

Style & Technology Studio

The free-to-attend Style & Technology Studio, located within Automotive Interiors Expo and featuring over 40 expert industry speakers, has also seen a busy first day. A particular highlight from Day 1 saw Steve Crijns, senior design manager at McLaren Automotive Ltd, tell the interior design story of the Speedtail, McLaren’s new three-seater Hyper GT, which features a central driving position.
